Personal
Information
I, nicknamed
Tots by all my friends, was brought up in Burnpur, a small township, in
interior Bengal, India. My overarching academic interest has always been
in processes that govern life: I had realized that one of the better
routes to a holistic understanding of these processes was through
Chemistry. Hence I wanted to develop a strong base in Chemistry, and did
my B.Sc. in Chemistry from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. I then went on to
do my Masters in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),
Delhi. Throughout these years, I retained my original interest in life
sciences. However, it was Chemical Biology, the fascinating interface
between Biology and Chemistry that I found myself increasingly drawn
towards and joined the Begly lab in the Department of Chemistry and
Chemical Biology at Cornell University, in 2004 aspiring for a PhD degree.
