Syringe and Needle (Sharps) Disposal

All "sharps" including syringes and needles are considered by the EPA to be regulated medical waste, regardless of usage. Place all "sharps" in approved sharps containers (available in the Chemistry Department Stockroom). When full, seal the top. Bring the container to Laboratory Services (B01C Baker Lab) and complete a Medical Waste Tracking Tag which you may obtain from any Laboratory Services staff member.

All users of syringes are responsible for keeping disposal records as required by New York State law (type, size, quantity, date, and individual by whom destroyed). Refer to the Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan for more details.
