Research
Research in our group is focused on the development of new useful synthetic transformations and the total synthesis of natural products. The discovery and study of new synthetic methods that are simple, efficient and general in scope continues to be an essential scientific pursuit. Such methods serve many needs of basic science and enable the development of new pharmaceuticals and other essential chemical structures. Equally important is the synthesis and study of natural products. Natural products have greatly impacted drug discovery over the last sixty years by serving as the source or lead structures for new drugs. We have chosen to study several structurally intriguing natural products with promising biological profiles. Our total syntheses will provide a roadmap for accessing new structures, which may help shed light on the biological mechanism of these natural structures.
