Postdoc Stephan H von Reuss and graduate students Joshua Judkins and Yevgeniy Izrayelit join the Schroeder lab.

Stephan recently finished his PhD at the University of Hamburg. Stephan will be working on identification and synthesis of small molecule metabolites. Josh (B.S. Ohio Northern University 2009) and Yevgeniy (B.A. Vassar College 2009) are first-year graduate students in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell.

Postdoc Axel Bethke has joined the Schroeder lab

Axel recently finished his PhD with Adam Antebi, director at the new Max-Planck Institute for Ageing in Cologne, Germany. Axel's recent Science paper described the role of a nuclear hormone receptor DAF-12 and micro RNA's for regulating development in C. elegans.

NIH grant awarded for the study of chemical communication in nematodes.

In collaboration with the labs of Art Edison (UFlorida) and Paul Sternberg (Caltech) we will be studying small molecule-based signaling of nematodes, including the role of pheromones in sex-specific attraction.

NIH grant awarded for studying ageing in C. elegans

The Schroeder group received funding for a two-year project aimed at investigating the role of endogenous small molecules in regulating lifespan and developmental progression in the nematode C. elegans.

7/23/2008

Advance online publication of our C. elegans paper in Nature

Our paper "A blend of small molecules regulates both mating and development in Caenorhabditis elegans" appeared online. Congratulations to Jagan (Caltech), Fatma (UFlorida) and Nur (BTI/Cornell)! (nature.com)

DuPont Young Professor Award

Frank has been awarded a DuPont Young Professor Grant. The award ($25,000 annually in unrestricted funds for three years) is given to 12-17 young faculty from around the globe each year. The grants recognize original research in chemistry, biofuels, miniaturization applications for electronics and medicine, structure and function of proteins, nanocomposites, studies in earth science and climate change. Postdoc Hanno Andreas Ludewig and graduate student Ry Roger Forseth join the Schroeder Lab

Ry Forseth is a first-year graduate student in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin/Madison in 2007. Hanno Andreas Ludewig did his graduate studies with Adam Antebi at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Germany. Andreas' main responsibility will be developing the C. elegans subgroup in the Schroeder Lab.
