Laboratory Services
Chemicals, glassware, and other equipment used in instructional laboratories are provided by Laboratory Services, managed by Rebecca Regan. Instructors provide a schedule of experiments for each semester, along with textbook references and/or written procedures for each experiment. Ms. Regan will determine material requirements for each experiment and the Lab Services staff will prepare and deliver materials to the labs. TAs and students are responsible for cleaning up at the end of each lab period. Periodic housekeeping and safety inspections are carried out by the Lab Services staff. The Lab Services staff also collects and disposes of all chemical wastes from the teaching labs; TAs are responsible for supervising proper waste disposal by their students.

Syringe and Needle Disposal
All "sharps" including syringes and needles are considered by the EPA to be regulated medical waste regardless of usage. Please place all "sharps" in designated containers (red, heavy-walled cartons available in the Stockroom). When full, seal the top with the infectious waste label, and if applicable, use a black marker to make the "Infectious Waste" legend unreadable. Bring the container to Lab Services and fill out a medical waste tracking tag. All users of syringes are responsible for keeping disposal records as required by New York State law (type, size, quantity, date, and individual by whom destroyed). Refer to the Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan for more details.

Waste Glass
Dispose of waste glass in the special cardboard containers marked "Glass," never in the regular wastebaskets. Please refer to section 6.8.3, Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan, for proper procedures. When a "Glass" box is full, request a replacement box and duct tape to seal the old one from the teaching laboratory stockroom.
